Introduction to ISSB tests

Welcome to the only website on ISSB which has complete A to Z information on ISSB and along with useful suggestions about how to attempt these tests.

All 3 Pakistani Armed Forces (i.e ARMY, NAVY, AIRFORCE) inducts and recruits commissioned officers in all their respective branches and departments.

In order to get inducted, the Aspirants are required to pass a series of tests and get Recommendation from a commission which is called the Inter-Services Selection Board ( ISSB ).

➔All armed forces of Pakistan induct new officers twice a year.

➔The induction Announcement is made through local news papers and online.

➔The Job Applications are Submitted in all selection and recruitment centers across Pakistan, an aspirant can choose his/her local or nearest selection center for Application submission. 

➔After Submission Of Application the candidates go through a series of initial test which include:-

       a) An online IQ, Gen. knowledge & Academic test.
       b) Medical Examinations (height/weight, vision and general body exam)
       c) Physical Examination (For Army regular commission only)
       d) Initial interview

➔After passing the initial tests, the Candidates appear before the ISSB, it is a five day stay at the ISSB premises and the candidate is thoroughly evaluated for their suitability for the armed forces. 


IMPORTANT INFORMATION
➔One Aspirant can get "Not Recommended" from the ISSB three times maximum for any category.
  • Twice after intermediate and a third attempt after competing graduation.
  • If an aspirant has been not recommended 1 after intermediate he/she has two chances after graduation.
  • If an aspirant has never appeared in the ISSB before graduation, he/she will have only two chances for appearing at ISSB.
  • If someone has been "recommended" but couldn't make it to the academy due to low merit (happens rarely), or if someone is "Differed" in  the previous attempt, then he/she has not lost a chance and still retain all chance to appear again in the ISSB tests.
  • Age limit to apply after intermediate is 16 to 22 years.
  • Any armed forces serving personnel has two years relaxation in the upper age limit and he/she can apply up to 24 years of age.
  • The age limit for graduates is 18 to 25 years for regular commission and 18 to 30 years for short service commission.
Difference between Regular Commission and Short Service Commission
  • Regular commissioned officers are awarded the rank of second lieutenant for army and equivalent for other forces. The age limit for service in regular commission is 60 years of age. This is a full length service that can go up to the 4 star general's rank. Regular Commissioned officers get a full gratuity and pension etc from the armed forces.
  • Short service commission or SSC officer is awarded the rank of captain in Army and equivalent of captain for other forces, SSC has the service limit of maximum 13 years. Armed forces induct graduates of Medical, engineering, management, accounting and educationalist (teaching staff) in this category (Candidates of all categories of SSC have to take ISSB except the Medical and education category). These officers get limited a limited gratuity and pensions. SSC can sometimes be extended to regular commission by the Armed forces if the officer is exceptional in his/her field.

Structure of ISSB
➔The ISSB is a selection board comprised of senior officers from all armed forces of Pakistan.
The selection committee at ISSB is three dimensional which means it has three departments in which a candidate has to excel in order to get recommendation.

➔The board is comprised of the following three testing departments.
     1.Deputy president
     2.Groups testing officer (GTO)
     3.Psycologist

➔All three departments and their officers report to the President of the board. Who make the final recommendation after counselling with the above three sub-ordinates.

➔Here is the explained role of each member and testing officer in the board.

1.Deputy President : A deputy president takes verbal interview from the candidates and the interview is a very detailed one. He is also the senior among the three members.

2.Group testing Officer : A group testing officer or a GTO tests the candidates in Group forms. He arranges several group tasks for the candidates to take part in. The tasks are both indoor and outdoor. A candidate spend Majority of His/Her time with the GTO.

3.Psychologist : A psychologist assesses the mental caliber, attitude and thought pattern of the candidates through various mental tests.

➔All three testing officers make assessment and results about each candidate and if all three officers give positive feedback about a candidate He/She gets recommended for the armed forces of Pakistan.

➔After getting Recommended the candidates are invited for training at their concerned military academy.

Only after gradating the training successfully the trainees are awarded the post of BPS-17 Officer in the armed forces.
